Amy Ramirez, is a student at Washburn University and is currently on track to graduate with her Associates in Liberal Arts summa cum laude in December. She plans to continue her education in Data Mining. She is currently incarcerated at Topeka Correctional Facility; however, she does not let her circumstances define her. Since the beginning of her sentence she has promised herself to take advantage of all of the resources the facility has to offer. Since her time at TCF she has completed and participated in almost every program and group the facility offers. She has achieved her Microsoft Office Specialist Masters Certification and was in the first group selected to introduce a new industry job in 2021 for Polo Custom Products. During her time at Polo she became a Team Lead. Shortly after, she completed a rigorous 5-month long Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program.
After this she became the first resident to usher in a new hourly paid position working for KDOC Central Office. During her time at Central Office she became acquainted with Cris Fanning, Ph.D., Executive Director of Programs and Risk Reduction. After Amy’s time at Central office she had the honor of being hand selected by Dr. Fanning to partake in the pilot program for Alliance for Higher Education. Amy is the first Fellow in the state of Kansas. While Amy is a full time student and working for the Alliance, this is not enough to keep her fully occupied. In addition, Amy is also a member of TCF’s KSDS Dog Training Program, a program that trains service dogs for their specified assignments. She is an active part of the Career Navigation program at TCF, assisting with classes, resume preparation, and job searches. She helps run the Threads of Hope Clothing Closet, which provides interview clothing as well as everyday clothing and hygiene products for women releasing.
