The Annual Survey of Higher Education in Prison was launched in March 2021. The survey consisted of 77 questions, gathering descriptive program information for the 2019-2020 academic year prior to the start of the COVID-19 global pandemic (July 1, 2019 – March 1, 2020).

In this report, we provide a descriptive overview of the landscape of higher education in prison during the 2019-2020 academic year. The report includes an overview of where higher education in prison programs are located, how long they have been operating, what types of colleges and universities are supporting higher education in prison programs, the various types of modes of engagement and other descriptive features of higher education in prison programs.
