Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking applicants for a full-time Program Assistant for the WWCC Correction Education program located at the Washington State Penitentiary (WSP) in Walla Walla, Washington.
This position is filled to fulfill a contract awarded to Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) by the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (WSBCTC) to operate a correctional education program at WSP in accordance with an interagency agreement with the Department of Corrections. Walla Walla Community College and its employees working in a correctional education program are expected to follow all Department of Corrections (DOC) Policies, IT and other Security requirements, follow DOC Operational Memorandums, and comply with the Superintendent’s directions.

$3,145.00 - $4,072.00 Monthly
General Responsibilities
- This position prioritizes and performs office assistant duties for the Dean and Assistant Dean of Corrections Education.
- The Program Assistant will independently administer GED tests and related Pearson registrations and disseminate scores to students and teachers.
- This position will also perform a variety of clerical projects and assignments such as establishing record keeping, filing systems, database files, and inventories.
- Professionally and respectfully communicates with students, faculty, and staff of diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds.
- Resolves problems and responds to inquiries requiring substantive knowledge of office and departmental procedures and policies in coordination with the Assistant Dean, and Dean of Corrections Education. WWCC Washington State Penitentiary Organizational Chart (Download PDF reader)
Essential Functions:
GED Proctor
Tasks include:
- Provides GED exam for students enrolled in Basic Skills classes.
- Maintain inventories of materials, equipment, or products.
- Enforce policies and rules governing inmate students attending testing.
- Take attendance and maintain student activity log.
- Accurately maintain testing records and fully submit records to GED Testing Program Coordinator.
- Occasionally provide proctoring services for academic placement testing.
Student Records
Tasks include:
- Works with the computerized Department of Corrections (DOC) Offender Management Network Information (OMNI) to generate and fill seat availability for classes offered at WSP.
- Participate in yearly CASAS Cadre trainings and work with faculty CASAS Cadre to disseminate new information and maintain CASAS certifications.
- Enter and maintain student information in WABERS. Assist with quarterly checklist and updating student WABERS records.
- Prepares, inputs, and distributes weekly student/offender attendance.
- Requests, tracks and updates student records pertaining to assigned program area.
- Creates and maintains active and inactive student files.
Faculty Support
Tasks include:
- Provide instructional support on a daily basis.
- Provides information to staff and offenders to resolve inquiries related to the Education Department’s standards and procedures.
General Office Duties/Inventory
Tasks include:
- Inventory control of textbooks, calculators, and other supplies.
- Transport supplies, books, and documents throughout facility on an as needed basis.
Competencies
- Effective verbal, written, and electronic communication skills with students, faculty, and staff that respects diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds, and follows expected guidelines.
- Excellent computer skills: including experience with Microsoft Office products and Microsoft Outlook. Able to use databases and integrated software.
- Work well with others in a professional manner, including positive interpersonal communication
- Effective organizational and time-management skills. Assess needs, identify objectives, collect and record relevant information for scheduling. Prioritize actions that must occur, establish communication with affected parties. Ability to read, understand and interpret policies and procedures; effective oral and written communication skills.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduation or equivalent, and two years of clerical experience. Any combination of education/experience may substitute at the discretion of the college.
