The Petey Greene Program: Regional Manager, Washington, D.C.

The Regional Manager will be responsible for leading the Petey Greene Program’s Washington, D.C. region and ensuring the provision of high-quality tutoring, college bridge, and out-of-school time programming for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated students in the greater Washington, D.C. area. This includes leading the region’s growth and development, managing several programmatic, university, and subcontractor partnerships, as well as supervising a team of two other staff members.

The Regional Manager will be responsible for leading the Washington, D.C. team in implementing PGP’s current educational programming and out-of-school-time programming at the District of Columbia Jail and two youth detention centers in Washington, D.C. and Maryland. The PGP currently organizes a variety of educational services at these sites, including tutoring for students working towards their GED or high school diploma, college bridge programming, and subcontracted after-school programming. For the Regional Manager, this will require collaborating, coordinating, and liaising between multiple types of partners, including local government offices, higher education programs, reentry providers, prisons, jails, and youth detention centers.

In addition, the role will support Washington, D.C. staff members who are responsible for direct program management, by working with them to determine the tutoring needs of program partners and participating students, developing semester program plans and collaboration agreements, and ensuring tutors and students are matched appropriately. The position is also tasked with monitoring the quality and evaluation of the tutoring services provided, and supporting regional team members to troubleshoot issues of attendance, engagement, or academic progress in collaboration with program partners, PGP staff, tutors, or students. The Regional Manager will also be directly responsible for managing subcontractor relationships and data reporting for PGP’s out-of-school-time programming.

Finally, in collaboration with PGP’s national staff, the Regional Manager will be responsible for leading the exploration and development of new and fully-funded programming in the greater Washington, D.C. region, including the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. This will involve cultivating relationships with potential partners and funders, pursuing fee-for-service contracts, navigating the collection of academic data, and developing programming to create a continuum of educational support for system-impacted learners in and around Washington, D.C, both during and after their incarceration.

Preferred candidates will reside in the greater Washington, D.C. area. The role is hybrid, with a combination of work-from-home days, meeting days in the community or at partner sites, and in-office days at a coworking space in Washington, D.C.. The position reports to the PGP’s Director of Regions.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads the Washington, D.C. team in overseeing the week-to-week operations of all of PGP’s Washington, D.C. tutoring programs including coordinating the logistics of educational operations, monitoring high-level trends, and troubleshooting challenges
  • Builds and maintains relationships with all regional stakeholders including community partners, university professors and university offices, correctional facilities, youth detention centers, etc.
  • Manages relationships with programmatic partners, which includes holding regular meetings, fulfilling program requests and student referrals, ensuring tutor-student fit, and collecting academic data
  • Recruits, manages, and supports out-of school time subcontractors to provide extracurricular programming (theater, basketball, music, etc.) to incarcerated youth, while coordinating with and providing service updates to the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education
  • Builds and maintains relationships with university partners, both in liaising with administrators and supporting Washington. D.C. staff to build and supervise campus leadership teams on local campuses, including both PWIs and HBCUs
  • Drives, guides, and monitors the development and expansion of the PGP’s Washington, D.C. programming
  • Cultivates relationships with service organizations supporting incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people in the greater Washington, D.C. area, generating opportunities for collaborative programming and funding
  • Cultivates relationships with key public officials to position PGP as a resource on effective education for currently and formerly incarcerated youth and adults, while generating and identifying opportunities to sustain and expand fully-funded programming in Washington, D.C.
  • Represents PGP Washington, D.C. at meetings with funders, collaborating with national staff to identify and cultivate funders
  • Manages relationships with Washington, D.C.-based members of the PGP’s National Advisory Network, to generate a network of support in identifying and pursuing funding and programming opportunities
  • Supervises a small team of two full-time Division Managers, conducting weekly team meetings with Washington, D.C. staff, as well as individual check-ins with direct reports

Competencies

  • Previous managerial experience (experience managing early-career professionals preferred)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Calendar  
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in person and via email, text, and phone.  
  • Attention to detail and extremely organized.  
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with a diverse group of partners
  • Ability to problem solve independently and with a team
  • Experience or skills in group facilitation
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Experience working with or knowledge of the Department of Corrections as an employee, partner, or a formerly incarcerated person.
  • Awareness of issues related to mass incarceration and broader social justice concerns.
  • A commitment to racial equity, and the rights of currently and formerly incarcerated people.
  • A commitment to education in confined settings.

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4-6 years of experience
  • Experience working in education and familiarity with pedagogy and youth development
  • Experience working with community organizations and local governments in the greater Washington, D.C area
  • Experience building relationships with community stakeholders, service providers, policymakers, etc.
  • Experience working with student or community-based organizations,
  • Experience building relationships on campuses and/or in the community

Compensation and Benefits

$63,000-$70,000
