The successful candidate for this full-time, tenure-track position will be responsible for teaching lower-division courses in Ethnic Studies and will assist in the development of new lower-division Ethnic Studies courses. Courses will be primarily offered to incarcerated students inside Pelican Bay State Prison and secondarily at the Del Norte Campus in Crescent City, CA. Teaching assignments in the college’s innovative Pelican Bay program will include night and possibly weekend assignments. The position may also involve teaching courses through on-line or other distance modalities. The candidate chosen for this position will have the opportunity to lead and participate in college initiatives designed to promote diversity, equity and inclusion within the college’s broader curriculum and to work in conjunction with other disciplinary faculty to create a broad-based Ethnic Studies program at the college. The candidate must have a demonstrated background in at least one of the following: African American Studies, Asian- American Studies, or LatinX Studies.

Preferred Qualifications
- Community college teaching experience, especially in Ethnic Studies and the history of diverse American ethnicities.
- Experience working with diverse communities, organizations, and programs.
- Potential for developing campus-wide interdisciplinary links with programs and departments.
- Broad knowledge of the evolving disciplines covered within the interdisciplinary heading of Ethnic Studies.
- Interest in the development of an Ethnic Studies Program/Department, curriculum design, collaboration with racial equity programs and initiatives, service on college committees, engagement in professional development, and contribution to department responsibilities such as program review.
- Experience and/or interest in working collaboratively with colleagues and community.
- Knowledge of and experience integrating instructional technology in the classroom and the ability to use such technology to offer curriculum and student learning through diverse delivery modes, as appropriate.
- Commitment to lower-division teaching of diverse student populations, including first-generation college students, low socioeconomic students, and racially minoritized students.
Education and Experience
Minimum qualifications
- Master’s in the ethnic studies field OR Master’s in American Studies/Ethnicity, LatinX Studies, Asian-American Studies, or African-American Studies OR the equivalent OR see Interdisciplinary Studies.
