Announcing the 10th Annual Texas Correctional Education Conference (TCEC) at the Walker Education Center in Huntsville on Friday, September 27, 2024, from 9:00am-4:00pm CT. The TCEC celebrates its 10th year being one of the only correctional education conferences in Texas where all the stakeholders involved in higher education in prison come together. This includes formerly incarcerated persons, Higher Education in Prison programs, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, the Texas Board of Criminal Justice, state legislators, state agencies, nonprofits, technical service providers, and the community. This year we celebrate “A Decade of Impact,” and go “Beyond Walls and Wires.” Some presentations will cover: Student Best Interest Determination, Alumni Panel Q & A, Data Gathering and Sharing, Instructors Panel, Barriers In Higher Education in Prison, and much more. One of our confirmed speakers is a member of the Texas Board of Criminal Justice.

Our goal for this conference is to go from conversations to stronger collaborations amongst one another that will help our current and formerly incarcerated students succeed beyond the prison setting. This is smart for these communities they are returning to and Texas as a whole, creating a Talent Strong Texas.

Following the daytime conference we will have an evening Alumni/Formerly Incarcerated Persons & Family Networking gathering and mixer on Friday from 6:30pm-8:30pm CT at a TBD restaurant. On Saturday the 28th, we will have an Alumni and Formerly Incarcerated Persons & Family Workshop Event at a TBD Park in Huntsville, TX from 8am-12pm CT.
