Use the Search Options feature to refine the parameters of your search. It is possible to select multiple variables from a single dropdown as well as multiple variables across categories. Selecting more variables will help refine the search. For a broad search, use fewer variables. Use the "Reset Search" button to clear the categories and start your search again.
Facility refers to the larger institution (prison, jail, detention center, juvenile facility) in which higher education programming was provided and not subsets within the facility (e.g, different housing units or “camps”).
Because most U.S. prisons segregate people on binary sex assigned at birth, this directory only includes ‘men’ and ‘women’ designated facilities. Programs working in a facility in which the designated sex is exclusively trans*, transgender, gender non-conforming, and/or non-binary individuals, either used “other” or provided a description in the comment box on the national survey.
This map works like most online maps. Double-click to zoom-in. Hold the shift-key and double-click to zoom-out. Hold the shift-key and click and drag to zoom into a specific area. Click and drag to pan around the map. Use the icon in the upper right to restore the map to the default location. Use the Search Options or the search box to focus in on a state, program, institution, etc.
Hover your mouse over a Program, Institution, or Facility on the map (or in the right column) to see it highlighted. Hold the shift-key while hovering over a Program name in the right column and popups will appear for the institutions and facilities related to that program.
